It's a full color, typically three panels of mildly off color humor featuring a minority couple living somewhere in Chicago's Boystown trying to keep peace with eccentric relatives belonging to the United Nation of Church's, the economy and the occasional antics that come from a night out on the town.

I'm sorry. I would love to, but I can't. There's nothing in your HTML that changes with every update. In fact, nothing changes in your code, since all the changes are contained in the flash movie, and our server can't look inside an swf file. May I suggest that you set up an RSS feed or something? Sorry for the bother, but there's simply nothing in your very clean code that I can hook our system on.

How do you update the swf? Is it updated and uploaded every time you post, or is it dynamically updated with image files and perhaps an xml or text file?

Alternatively a comment could be added to a page along the lines of <?-- updated on: Tuesday -->, or if you don't want to edit a page you can have a text file on the site which you can change/replace in whatever way you want at the same time you update the comic.

Crazy option would be to check comic.swf itself, but that would involve downloading well over a megabyte (and growing) every check.

From what I've seen, he's got all the comics in the same swf, and adds the new comic into it every time. Also, I was under the impression there was nothing you could do with an swf file on the user end except view it. How would you go about checking a flash movie?

You do a full check, instead of html the server sees what you would see if you opened the swf in notepad. Full check compares hashes, so the server isn't actually saving megabytes of data to compare, but it is downloading 1.5+ megabytes just to check the hash.
