Woo! Forums at last.

Well what can I say. The new site is awesome! I was having CN withdrawals for a while, even resorting to using Piperka for a while (I feel so dirty...). I like the cityscape graphics. Could use a dragon or two though.

It's good to seem comic-nation getting back up to full functionality. These are really the only forums I frequent at all, and I have to say I missed the.

A bit off-topic, but why call it a "rant" if you're not always actually angry about something in these?

Well, nowadays, on the web, "rant" has become something of a standard phrase for all kinds of blog type entries and recurring commentaries, such as those accompanying webcomic updates, rather than its original, tighter, definition of "a loud bombastic declamation expressed with strong emotion". Behold linguistics in the making :-)

Is it really all that widespread? I can only really think of two or three sites that refer to them as that, this one included.

I do agree with you on the linguistics thing, though. If enough people do it wrong often enough, it becomes right, essentially.

Define "all that widespread" :-)

It's by no means *official* yet, but like you said, you know a couple of sites, and I know a couple of sites. It's widespread enough that, within the huge, varied, and chaotic web of the Internet, most people can be expected to have encountered the usage.

I used to be a real stickler for tyrannical formalism, but I've mellowed out with age, so unless there's some compelling reason to keep to the original meaning of a word, I tend to see the above as enough justification :-)
